But, after looking into it a bit more I was prompted to download a page in which I forced a header of:

Content-Type: application/text-html; charset=utf-8

If this is the header the server sent the browser, it's a bit messed up. It should be either text/html or application/xhtml+xml, and the latter is the one IE generally has trouble with.
