Shawn, some of the skEdit quirks you mentioned here and at Hicksdesign appear to have been addressed in the 3.6 beta. If you ask Mr. Kelly, he'll probably send you a copy to try out until 3.6 final comes out. I'm currently enjoying several of its improvements.

I like just plain old editors. I find it more time consuming to try to do these "auto" features and plugins or shortcuts when I'm all concentrated at coding and typing. As long as it lets me code, and is able to keep up with my pace of typing (which I've seen freaking weird text editors that couldn't match up with my speed of typing), I'm all good.

Oh, and on Macintosh I enjoy using Textwrangler; not because it has all these spiffy plugins, but because it does the job. I need tabs, and a window to write my code. I would actually prefer to use SubEthaEdit for its color coding only if they had tab-bars like Textwrangler.

But yea. Two components that I look for when choosing a text editor for me is a window to type text, and a tab bar. Simple as that. :)

Programmer's Notepad is pretty decent for Windows. I've used it for ages.

And it's Jon Hicks, not John, so you're not only a name dropper, but a bad one! In yo' face! ;o

Joey & Arthur - thanks for the suggestions, I'll give those a look see. In the mean time I suggest you check out Notepad++. It's definitely a gem.
